I do love a limited edition...

There's something even more appealing about a limited edition. It grabs your attention and somehow increases the desire to purchase. My blue Karen Millen dress that I purchased last summer is a good example of this. I saw a number of dresses that I fancied wearing to my sister-in-law's wedding but none that caught my attention quite like the midnight blue dress with the pleated sleeves and subtle gold chain detailing. The fact that it was a limited edition only made it more appealing; knowing that the chances of someone else wearing it were reduced by a limited supply was a clear selling point.

My new laptop case, a Knomo quilted slim brief is another example. Although not strictly a limited edition, this particular laptop bag was actually quite tricky to track down. I called House of Fraser who apparently only stock the item in 1 colour and only have 5 in the whole country; I also called four luggage stores before finally getting hold of a store that had it in stock. While many people may consider that this is too much effort for a simple laptop case that I could have bought from Staples, I would argue that the rarity of this item actually adds to its appeal.

The same is true outside of the fashion world, in the realms of interior design and art. Limited edition rocking horses such as the rocking zebra and Churchill's Charger are highly popular collectibles.

Battle of the fashion week schedule!

Any idea who's going to win in the battle of the fashion week schedule? It looks like Milan are digging their heels in. Personally, I can't see the benefit to any of the fashion capitals of the world of having a clash in the fashion week schedules. Designers, media and retailers will be forced to choose between London, Milan and New York meaning that, at some point, the industry will miss out.

I look forward to seeing how this gets resolved. Love fashion weeks and don't want to have to follow three in the same week - that would be exhausting!
